 February 1, 2011

Hi all!

Happy February!  Oh my!  Both stores are open today, Tuesday.  Anita made her way up I-135 to the Mall store, and reports that the blowing snow made visibility very bad, but there was no ice or snow on the road.  She may close early, so phone later this afternoon before venturing out.

Mary & Breckyn (Newton schools are cancelled) are at the Downtown store.  Mary says that all the Newton streets are plowed, and that there is a little drifting, but not much.

If you decide to get out, please take lots of precaution.  Throw an EXTRA QUILT in the car and a bottle of WATER, even if you are just driving in town!

Yesterday I had a brilliant idea of pinning extra quilts up over those old-fashioned single-pane windows at the front of the 708 side of the Downtown store.  It made a big difference in the cold draft right away.  So, while I can't promise "cozy", I do believe the store is "cozier". :)

If you have questions about anything, feel free to phone either store.  316-284-2547 downtown, 316-804-4660 at the mall.

Mary is filling WEB ORDERS now.   Place an ORDER TODAY and add the word GIFT in the coupon box at check out and we'll throw in something special!

Breckyn is kit cutting for next week's Second Saturday Block-a-Month class.

It is not too late to join our SECOND SATURDAY, which meets next on Saturday Feb. 12th!  Want info?  Click here for great pictures:

This THURSDAY, Feb. 3rd is the first meeting of

The Joy of Life - Written as a 9-part sampler, it can be stitched using either the needle-turn or blanket stitch appliqué techniques.

This beautiful quilt was designed by Rosalie Quinlan as she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. It is a reflection of her journey and the joy that she has found in everyday life.  MONTHLY KIT price will include pattern & fabric for top.

Mary will teach a variety of appliqué methods, hand and machine, in this class which meets 1st Thursdays at 10 a.m. & 7 p.m.  First class will meet Feb. 3.

This year there we're starting a new SAMPLER QUILT, again using REPRODUCTION CIVIL WAR ERA fabrics made by Marcus Fabrics.

The Civil War Chronicles BOM quilt features twelve blocks that tell the stories of twelve women who encountered their own struggles on the home front while their husbands were away.

Each pattern includes historical background and biographies about the generals' wives.

Patterns includes many new features over last year's pattern series, including finished sizes for individual units within the blocks, color diagrams, and more quick-trick piecing techniques.

If you'd like some encouragement and help, consider joining any of our classes or clubs.

Sewing Club - on-going. Meets 9:30 a.m. 2nd Thursdays. Join anytime. $36/year. Visit for just $5/month.  Next meeting will be Thursday February 10th. We've come up with several good options, but Mary's topic is still in development.  :)
