 SELF-
ADHESIVE TEMPLATE MATERIAL FROM APPLIQUÉ GRAPHICS
is very helpful when doing needle-turn appliqué by hand.
Copy your pattern onto the Self Adhesive
template product using a copy machine or your scanner and computer
printer or simply draw on it by hand.

Cut out the template, pull off paper backing,
stick to the right side of your fabric, trim, leaving between 1/8 and
1/4 inch seam allowance.
I like to use a STRAW NEEDLE
and thread to match the fabric being appliquéd. But, if the
thread is fine enough, the color does not have to match exactly.
Simply fold under the fabric,
using the rigid edge of the template material as a guide, and take
small stitches into the background fabric and up through the folded
edge of the appliqué. Then go back down, right next to the
edge, into the background fabric and then up again into the appliqué
fabric. The
longer, finer, straw needle is a lot easier to hold onto than it's
shorter cousins, plus your hand is further away from the center of
your stitching activity, making it easier to get a good look at where
you are stitching.

If
you have trouble threading needles, large or SMALL, you might want to
try the CLOVER
DESK NEEDLE THREADER.
