Welcome to
The 2006 Charlotte's Other Quilt Club Featuring Thimbleberries Fabrics.

May Mini-Quilt

Lori Smith’s ANVIL mini quilt.

  • Start with 8 fat quarters included in this month's shipment.  Also use some fabrics from previous months to get a nice mix of colors.

  •  Follow the pattern on page 6 of TWENTY LITTLE FAT QUARTER QUILTS.  Using different light backgrounds gives this quilt more "movement".

  • THANGLES in 1.75" & 3.5" finished are recommended for the half-square triangle units.

  • You can follow Lori's color picture for fabric choices or branch out on your own.

  • Using a design board to audition the colors in different positions helps keep the color placement interesting.

  • Make the larger HSTs first, choose the center squares next and then decide on the outside HSTs.  Don't be afraid to change your mind!

This quilt consists of 7-1/2" blocks and measures approx. 72" x 89" when finished.  Designed and copyrighted by Lori Smith.

After making the 16" x 20" mini-quilt, there will be enough fabric to make some 7-1/2" blocks each month. You may choose to receive more fabric each month**, insuring you can make 7 blocks monthly and complete the fabulous sampler quilt pictured above in just 12 months.

  • Finished quilt should be approximately 16” x 20”.

To the left is a picture of the "design board" I use in my sewing/guest bedroom.
When I'm ready for one, I take down a wall hanging.  Then using the same nails, hang a piece of light-weight batting which has a lightweight plastic tube slipped through a pocket sewn at the top.

You have to start somewhere, so I suggest you start with the larger half-square triangles on the left.

MONTHLY we will make a SMALL QUILT,
16" x 20" using these fat quarters.  We will be using patterns designed and copyrighted by Lori Smith.

See SLIDE SHOW above.

ORGANIZATIONAL TIPS:

  1. Try keeping track of the blocks made each month on the quilt diagram found on page 2.

  2. Insert all pages from both patterns into clear plastic sleeve protectors and store in a 3-ring binder.

  3. Print and save parts of these web pages and the .pdf pages and store in the notebook.  (Not necessary, as I do not plan on removing these pages from the web site until well after we've finished this year.)
