Paper piece 8 of the 9 units in
the block. Foundations are provided in the pattern. Take
care that the reproductions (4 each) are exactly 3 inches including
seam allowances.
I highly recommend the Add-An-Eighth
or Add-A-Quarter
rulers for paper piecing. Click on either name to see the
product in the web store. Let us know if you would like us to
send you one.
-
Attach your ruler to the
upper edge of a post card or other card with strapping tape so
that the lip of the ruler butts tightly up next to the card
edge.
-
Line the edge of the card
up with the line which is to be sewn next. Fold the paper
over the edge of the card.
-
Bring the ruler down and
trim the excess fabric extending beyond the ruler's edge with a
rotary cutter. This gives you an exact seam allowance and
makes it easier to match the next fabric piece in position.
Mark fabric/color placement on
spare foundations.
-
Cut apart another spare
foundation to use as a template for cutting the fabric pieces
before paper piecing. Add seam allowance to each
piece.
-
Use a temporary glue-stick
to attach first piece to wrong side of paper foundation.
Following instructions above, fold back paper on lines and trim
edges of piece.
-
Line up second fabric piece
with first, on wrong side of paper.
-
Turn paper over and stitch
on line, extending beyond the intersecting seam lines. Use a
short stitch length (approx. 15-18 stitches/inch) on your machine.
-
Follow numbers on
foundation for order of stitching.
Trim paper on outside block
lines when finished stitching. Leave paper on to sew blocks
together.
