Since the units are so small,
accuracy is very important. Also, the seams press flatter and
more open when the seam allowances are alternated at the
intersections. See the front and back images here. The the
"checkerboard" effect created when the seam is released back
to the next seam line and the seam allowances are pressed in alternate
directions.

In
this photo, "A" is the traditional pressing of the seam
allowances. "B" lays flatter because the seams have
been opened and pressed in a rotation, reducing bulk. Since
these units are only 1-1/2" finished, every little bit helps (or
hurts!).
