Hi all!

Wow, snow, snow, snow & ice!  My heart goes out to all of you in the north, especially around the Great Lakes & the Northeast!  Many of you have had more snow than I can imagine!  I do envy you a little for the inevitably slowed-down pace and wish you luck keeping your electricity and in finding some sewing time!  This is why we NEED a STASH! :)

Meanwhile, here in Kansas we've had a new "dusting" of snow together with single-digit temperatures and the phrase of the day is - "I'm ready for Spring!"

I used some very "Springy" woven fabrics to make this darling little purse - THE BUTTON BAG.  I extended the handle over what is described in the pattern, but that is easy to do, and you can too!

We've bundled the 5" OLD FASHIONED CHARM charm squares with a piece of fabric for lining and a piece for the bias trim together with the little pattern.  Very cute.  If you'd like us to include some coordinated buttons & a zipper, we can do that too!

Our weather cooperated last weekend long enough for everyone to gather here on Saturday, for the second installment of our new
KANSAS SPIRIT BLOCK-A-MONTH program.

Pictured here are the 3 color choices -
KANSAS, FEED SACK, & URBAN MYSTERY -
blocks for both January & February (which is Tonganoxie 9-Patch).

If you would like to join us, stop into the store, get registered,  and purchase a February block kit, make the block, come at 9 a.m. on March 10th, show your block, and get the next block kit for FREE.  Or come any time after that and purchase the next kit for $5.  We still have January and February block kits available in all 3 colors.

If you would like to get started with this program by mail, you can still do that too!  Normally we will send you 4 fat quarters each month, in whichever color way you wish.  However, we are sold out of fat quarter bundles both Jan. & Feb. in the KANSAS colors.  (Still available in the Feed Sack and Urban Mystery colors.)

We will start you with the $5 kits and then continue to send you fat quarters for the rest of the year.

You can still start our popular GINGERBREAD JOY block-a-month program as well.  This is a combination of APPLIQUÉ & PIECED blocks.  You choose your favorite method of appliqué, or come to class each month and Mary will teach you a variety of techniques and include special tips for the smaller pieces!  Again, we welcome late-starters!  The kits include the patterns and all the fabrics you need for the pieced & appliqué blocks.

We've got two great tools to suggest right away!

For small circles - sizes 3/8" to 1", try CIRCLEEZE.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=10821

For narrow bias - sizes 1/8" to 3/8", try flexible nylon BIAS BARS.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this weekend, the Central Kansas QUILT SHOP HOP shops will have a booth at the Wichita Women's Fair being held at Century II in downtown Wichita.  Come see us and be inspired.  The booth will be set up particularly to entice "newbies" & "wannabies" to sew & quilt!  i.e. we've made wonderfully simple quilts using patterns from POSSIBILITIES' books in small sizes, perfect for cribs & couches!  If you know someone who wants to sew but doesn't know where to start, encourage them to come see us or some other local quilt shop!  It's amazing how many people don't realize that there are choices other than chain-stores.  The independent quilt shop is where you can get real help with your questions!

"Simple" doesn't have to be boring!  I made my simple quilt using EMPRESS WOO, the new fabric collection from Robyn Pandolph for Free Spirit.

Jackie Clark, a local pattern DESIGNER, whose first fabric line is about to debut from Windham Fabrics, has helped us design and set up the booth.

In addition to her vintage-inspired nursery ideas, she has some very popular WEARABLE patterns for kids and adults.

Check them out - the BLOOMERS are sooooo cute - and talk about "Springy"!

Stay safe!  Stay warm!  Have a great weekend!

Hi all!

Belated "HAPPY KANSAS DAY"!  Kansas Day was this past Monday, the 29th.  It was also Randy's birthday (my dh).  He announced that when he turns 94 he'll have been alive for half of Kansas' statehood!  Lily (our dd) and I gave him a flower arrangement with big sunflowers.  It was very pretty!

And here's my special "sunflower offering" for you!

One of our latest TRAVEL PILLOW CASE KITS uses a beautiful cotton print with big sunflowers on a turquoise ground from Moda's SONNET COLLECTION.  Click here to order your touch of SUMMER in February! :)

Alexander Henry's multi-bright HEARTS on white makes up great as a pillow case.  Full of LOVE every day!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=10732

We still have some other great VALENTINE & just plain great HEART ideas!

Mary & her sisters made this great little 4-FAT QUARTER HEARTS mini-quilt at the Hyatt retreat in January.  Kits for this and my little HEARTS & 9-PATCHES scalloped edge mini-quilt have sold well all week.  These are from 2 of Lori Smith's  patterns -

Jan. 25, 2007

Hi all!

Oh my!  It is 38-degrees and we're MELTING!  No, nobody tossed a bucket of water on us for our evil deeds.  We've just been inundated with ice and snow, like much of the rest of the country!  I hope everyone is melting by today.

   22nd ANNIVERSARY PARTY!

  • THURSDAY FEBRUARY 1ST- everyone who comes in the store gets a NEW 2007 COUPON BOOK (regularly $10 - more than 50 pages with savings opportunities totaling more than $40 before even counting the discount coupons!)

  • FRIDAY & SATURDAY - first 10 customers with purchases of $10 or more in the store receive a VINTAGE HANKIE VALENTINE gift!
    NEW Coupon Book available HALF-PRICE!

  • THURSDAY, FRIDAY, SATURDAY - yummy cake! :)

  • 20% OFF ROWAN DESIGNER COTTONS - including Kaffe Fasset, Carla Miller & Martha Negley - continuing the tradition of offering
UNIQUE FABRICS for FASHION & QUILTING!

Next week, Feb. 1, 2 & 3, we celebrate my 22nd anniversary in fabric retailing!  I opened the first store on a cold February 1st with just 300 bolts of fabric.  I was scared and desperately hoping I'd attract enough shoppers to our little town of 3000 (I had  about 1-1/2 yards of fabric for each person!) and be able to pay the rent!  3 locations and a name-change later, a lot has changed through the years. Including the addition of many wonderfully talented associates who help keep this place running!  The business has expanded onto the web in recent years, and we can only imagine where it might go from here.

Westminster - Kaffe Fasset Beach Balls - MoodyThe NEW 2007 COUPON BOOK can be purchased and the coupons are good on purchases in the Newton store starting Feb. 1st.  (Actually the books will be FREE on Feb. 1 as my "thank you" to our customers.)  There are EXTRA DISCOUNT coupons for the Rowan Designer fabrics, as well as JHB buttons to use right away!

If you are a web-only customer, please watch your emails for coupon offers from me, especially for you, in the near future!

Today we have more than 4000 bolts of fabric in every variety imaginable!  We still carry some "fashion" fabrics, i.e. fabrics that make particular good "wearables", including extra soft cottons, rayon, silk, and some polyester fabrics.  But most of our sales are in COTTON PRINTS - and oh my, how they've changed in 22 years!

We still carry JHB buttons, more than 1000 different styles, plus a variety of buttons from other creative designers.  Our NEW COUPON BOOK includes a 25% OFF coupon on all JHB BUTTONS during the month of February.  One of our goals is to get all the JHB buttons into our web store.  But for now, if you have a style you are looking for, please ask!  You can have fun exploring the JHB Buttons web site and see the different styles available then come back and ask us if we have them so you can order!  Check out:

At our recent Hyatt sewing retreat (space still available in the March retreat, but filling fast) I started this cute little 16" x 22" quilt with CORNUCOPIA CHARM squares from Moda and one of Lori Smith's patterns.  Every 9-PATCH and every HEART is a unique fabric from the line with a common background behind the hearts.  I had fun with a gentle SCALLOP on the border.  Scallops are currently HOT, & I highly suggest this sort of project for your first "scallop" attempt.  The curves are so gentle that you don't have to worry about the "innies" with binding cut on the bias. :)

My scallop edge paper pattern is included with my exclusive CORNUCOPIA HEART KIT.  You can also order the fabric kit for the NATIVITY QUILT in this same pattern - THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.  If you already own the pattern, just order the fabric kit or kits.

Speaking of "throughout the year", our 3rd annual FOOL FOR FABRIC BUS TOUR is scheduled for SATURDAY APRIL 14th.  $65 includes round-trip transportation on a luxury bus.  The bus leaves Charlotte's Sew Natural about 8:30 a.m. heading for Sunflower Quilts in Derby.  Then on to Cottonwood Quilts in Hutchinson and Quilting Bee in Salina, returning to Newton about 6 p.m.  You'll also receive a "goodie bag" full of gifts, lunch & snacks to keep your energy up for shopping!  Hope you can join us.  Seating is limited so sign up today!

We are finally getting caught up with the STARRING WILLOWBERRY quilt kits.  If you've been waiting for your finishing kit for the 2006 Patchwork Party or just for the 115" wide backing fabric, it should be on it's way today!

We also had a slight delay getting the KANSAS SPIRIT kits out the door.  But I think that is about to be caught up today or at least by this weekend!  We're still taking orders for this new BLOCK-A-MONTH program!

2006-07 - Blocks A Month - Pieced & Snowmen AppliqueWith all this ice and snow, SNOWMAN block-a-months, anyone?  :)

See all of our BLOCK-A-MONTH programs at this link:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=10710

I hope you'll come visit us this weekend, or for sure next weekend to help celebrate the start of our 23RD YEAR SELLING FABRIC in Harvey County! :)  If you can't make it in, be sure to check out the web store.  Start at WHAT'S NEW:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?c=58&p=17

I had the back-door parking lot plowed (or "scraped" as it is often referred to here in Kansas).  It is ice and snow-free and you can enter the store without getting your feet wet.  So please stop in and see us and all our wonderful new fabric, patterns & books soon!

Have a great weekend!

Jan. 4, 2007

Hi all!

Happy New Year to you and your families!  The first 3 days seem to have passed quite quickly here in Kansas - imagine that! :)

THIMBLEBERRIES QUILT CLUB will meet for the first time tonight, Jan. 4th at 7 p.m. and Mary will start mailing the FIRST QUARTER packets (yes, 3 months worth, by others' standards) on Friday.  Sign up today and get a packet of 5" CHARM SQUARES of RJR THIMBLEBERRIES 2007 Club fabrics too!  Apparently RJR doesn't have all the fabrics yet, so we'll be sending these on at a later date!  Glad to see even the "big boys" haven't figured out how to control time!  LOL

Mary's THIMBLEBERRIES QUILT CLUB will meet only 4 times, the first Thursday of each quarter, at 7 p.m.  So come join the fun, have treats, win door-prizes while getting tips and technique pointers to make your BIG HOUSE QUILT project as well as any one or all of the 4 smaller projects being offered this year.

We've recently added two new staff people.  We're keeping Linda busy cutting kits and Trenna is staying very busy adding new product to the web store.  Be sure to check out WHAT'S NEW.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?c=58&p=17

Welcome to all of you who are new to my newsletter.  Let me begin to introduce and differentiate myself from some of the other "quilt" stores you may be familiar with, by telling you that I have a very big SOFT SPOT (other than my stomach!) for WEARABLES.  Hopefully, you'll be inspired this year to make yourself something to wear!  There are so many things to choose from - VESTS, SKIRTS, HALTER TOPS, just to name a few!

You can see lots of patterns in our CLOTHING & WEARABLES PATTERNS DEPT.  Trenna will be adding even more tonight after the kids go to bed, so check back this weekend too!:

Another thing about me - I really LOVE TEXTURE.

So, these new patterns from Nannette Holmberg really caught my eye!  Nannette sort of started the chenille craze a few years ago.  Now she has patterns that use just a touch or chenille.  You can use the SEARCH feature on any page in my web store and type in "chenille", or click here to see her 4 newest patterns.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=chenille

She is also producing bias strips that are easy to use to embellish anything with a touch of chenille.  See them here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=blooming

If you are intrigued by texture and chenille and would like to try your hand at making your own strips, check out one of my
TIPS - FUZZY BY THE FOOT
and the patterns I've written using this method.

http://www.sewnatural.net/FuzzyByFoot.htm

We have a couple of other new 2007 programs, starting this month. Check them out here.

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=13

We've mailed the last of the SAMPLER MAGIC packets for 2006.  Click here to see how I set 11 8" blocks.  (Yes, I fell waaaay behind! :) )  You'll also see the original pattern and some options to order fabric if you need more to finish yours or want to start a SAMPLER MAGIC QUILT now.

http://www.sewnatural.net/magic_sampler.htm

Already feeling a little overwhelmed with projects for 2007?

Come join us March 23, 24 & 25 for the HYATT RETREAT!  You can work on anything you like!  Start new projects, finish old ones, or just relax and watch the rest of us sewing up a storm!  :)

2007 HYATT RETREAT details here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=10139

And last, but not least, you might want to consider -
CHARLOTTE'S SHOPPER'S CLUB CARD.

An annual $30 membership earns you 20% OFF ALL REGULARLY PRICED merchandise in the store and on the web site NOW through DECEMBER 2007.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=10134

New fabrics are arriving daily!  Today we received EMPRESS WOO, the newest line designed by ROBYN PANDOLPH, printed by FREE SPIRIT.  The quality is soooo nice.  The fabric is soft, the colors are soft.  Come check them out for yourself.

Well, our family has enjoyed being together again during Lily's winter break from school.  She goes back to Cottey College this weekend.  She's luckier than many who returned this week already!

Hope you have had a nice "holiday season", and maybe now the last of the guests have gone home, the parties are over and you can get back to sewing!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,
Charlotte Wolfe
