Hi All!

Do you have a "smarty" in your life?  Wouldn't they just love these cute owls?!  This is just one of many new fabrics that have arrived in the past couple of weeks.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14782

We haven't photographed it yet,

but you can order a TIDY TRAVEL PILLOW CASE KIT featuring the OWLS as the main fabric:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14787

Marcus Brothers - Rio - Large Flower - Cream  The owls can coordinate with another NEW group called RIO.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=rio

They also work with the new COLOR THEORY group from Robert Kaufman.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=color+theory

Robert Kaufman is sponsoring a CONTEST using this line of fabric.  See the details here:

http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltquest/2008/

BTW - Need some encouragement for entering a contest?   Jan Hutchison, a "local" from Sedgwick KS, won the grand prize in Robert Kaufman's quilt challenge 2006.  Congratulations!!  Take a peek at Jan's quilt, SPRING IDYLL and other winners:

As usual, you can see all the newest additions to our web store by clicking this link:

Happy Kansas Day!  Happy Birthday to my dh, Randy!

Hope to see you all soon!

Have a great week!

January 17, 2008

Hi all!

Last week my husband said, "It's alright to be without a holiday!"  He was reacting to a recent trip to the grocery store where he'd found an entire aisle devoted to St Patrick's Day!  My daughter asked sarcastically, "what happened to the Valentines?"  My "retailer" persona cried out "What, a Holiday-less period?!", while my head was nodding in complete agreement that this barrage of holidays was getting a little "old"!

But, we Quilters are a different breed.  We don't think that holidays are dull or over-rated!  We think of them as a great excuse for another project!  Hearts are some of our favorites, and we don't even need a special day to make projects with hearts, hang quilts with hearts or add table runners or pillows with hearts to our decor.  So, if you too are a heart-lover, let me point out some of our favorite "heart" items!  :)

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=heart

Clover's new HEART YO-YO MAKER is quite unique.  Make yo-yos just for the fun of it, to use up scraps or to feel busy while "waiting".  Use the yo-yos to edge projects, like Quilt Country's newest runner pattern

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14667

or glued to greeting cards, or stitched together on a pillow, or added to t-shirts.  The ideas are endless!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=12954

If you've never made a yo-yo, the premise is quite simple.  For a "classic" yo-yo, you cut a circle, turn under the edge slightly, run a gathering stitch around the outside, pull it together and you have a little yo-yo.  Clover has introduced the greatest tools for making perfect yo-yos in all shapes & sizes!  The HEART SHAPE YO-YO makers, like all the shapes, are 2 piece plastic sets that fit together, with stitching slots and holes, lined up to give you perfect stitches, while practically turning the edges under for you!  Try it, you'll like it!  Kids really love making yo-yos!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=yo-yo

BE LOVING is the latest (2nd) of the BE ATTITUDES block-a-month kits for the quilt of the same name designed by Nancy Halvorsen.  We're picking the fabrics each month and cutting a limited number of kits.  If you haven't started yet (we just started in December), we're taking just a few more sign-ups before we close the registration.  Take a look here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14188

And we like RABBITS all times of the year too!  This month Mary is starting another BLOCK-A-MONTH called RABBITS PREFER CHOCOLATE designed by Anne Sutton who was inspired by antique chocolate molds!  How cute is that!

Block - A - Month - Rabbits Prefer Chocolate AppliqueYou can participate by ordering on-line or come to the store & pick up the kits.  You can also attend a monthly meeting in the store if you wish, to get tips, inspiration and encouragement from other in this social & sharing group!  The patterns are full-size and the fabrics are hand-picked for each block by Mary!  Choose your own borders later or select the option to add the borders & binding and we'll send those now.

The enrollment fee is just $29.99, plus $15.99/month for the block kits.  Details here:

JAMESTOWN - A SAMPLER QUILT designed by Marti Michell starts again the first Thursday of February, Feb 7th.  This class will meet monthly on the first Thursdays through December 2008 with both a morning & evening session.  This quilt uses Marti's PERFECT PATCHWORK TEMPLATES

as well as her unique LOG CABIN RULER.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=7936

Congratulations, and thank you for reading all the way to the end of the rather long newsletter!  I'm sorry it's been awhile since I last wrote.  Lily was home for a nice long visit and that kept me Amy Butler - Frenchy Bag - Purse Tote Patternextra busy.  Randy & I gave her a sewing machine for Christmas.  She loves her new "Project Runway" special edition from Brother.  I have to say, I'm very impressed!  She's been sewing CELL-PHONE holders, and made a really cute FRENCHY BAG for her friend's birthday!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=12334

Lily even made me a Yo-Yo pillow for Christmas using many of the yo-yos she constantly stitching.  She's back at school now and her entire class (130+ young women!) leaves for Italy in just about 7 weeks!  She and a couple of friends are then going to Ireland for a second week.  In an "Irish mood", we watched some fun Irish movies while she was home, including ONCE.  I highly recommend this movie (available on DVD) and now have to buy the sound-track as I can't stop singing those songs! :)

Lots of new fabric continues to arrive, keeping Darla busy at the computer & Vicki looking for shelf space!  Trenna is trying get the web store caught up, while the list just keeps getting longer!  Mary is gathering, cutting & working the credit card machine getting all the web orders processed as quick as she can!  I've got some "ladder work" ahead of me, as I try to arrange the new models on the walls & find a place for the new patterns.  Rozanne just brought in a new HEART RUNNER & Cleo arrived with both her PENGUIN & FLAMINGO quilts!  I think Trenna is adding all these to the web store, so be sure to check WHAT'S NEW!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?c=58&p=17

And we'd love to see you too!  So, I hope you can stop in soon to see all we've got on hand to inspire you!

Have a great week!

Hi all!

If you still need a Christmas gift for that special seamstress or quilter in your life, our gift certificates are extremely popular!  We can send an email with a code to be used on-line or in the store.

GIFT CERTIFICATES IN VARYING AMOUNTS AVAILABLE HERE:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=69

Is someone still asking "isn't there anything you want/need?".  YES!  Besides a generous gift certificate, you want/need a CHARLOTTE'S SHOPPER'S CLUB membership!

For just $30 you'll be entitled to 20% SAVINGS on all regularly priced merchandise through all of 2008!  How sweet is that!  Again, this can all be done on-line, no fuss, no muss!  Then every time you order on-line or shop in the store during 2008, we'll pull up your name on the computer and voila! your 20% discount is automatically applied.  Believe me, your SAVINGS ARE GREAT!  The more you buy the more you save, but it is a break-even at $150, and we know that doesn't take long.

Details here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14218

I think today is the shortest day/longest night of the year!  It's all down-hill now.  I'm starting to think SPRING!  :)  Did you see the newest issue of McCall's Quilting?  BITS OF SUNSHINE!  That beautiful blue, white & yellow quilt just says SPRING!  Yesterday we got all those exact fabrics and today we are starting to cut kits!  Just $89.95 for all the quilt top fabrics and the binding.  And another $49.99 for the quilt back.  Very simple.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14217

There is one sure way to tell that the end of the fiscal year is near - the fabric warehouses suddenly find and are able to fill all the orders that never got delivered in November, the December orders that we looked for the first week of the month and even some of the January orders!  And they all start rolling into the small independent quilt shops who are desperately trying to lighten their own load.  I dread, dread, dread, taking inventory! :(

Soooo, PLEASE come help us clean out the SALE FABRICS!

YEAR END SALE -

Starting Wednesday Dec. 26th through New Year's Eve, I'll take an additional 30% off all SALE FABRICS in the back sale/class room!

Same offer on the already marked down fabrics in the web store.  I sure wish we had time to get more of the sale fabrics loaded up to the web, but we'll see what we can do, so if you're bargain hunting, keep checking.  You're best bet, if you're relatively close, is high-tailing it into the store!  There are A LOT of great fabrics in the sale room!  :)

I'm also going to sell the select fat quarters in the sale room for just $1.  That's right, another chance at the

BARGAIN $1 FAT QUARTER SALE!

Merry Christmas!

Hope to see or hear from you soon!

Hi all!

BE WARM!  This is the first block in our new BE ATTITUDES BLOCK-A-MONTH series.  From the book of the same name by Nancy Halvorsen, we'll include fabrics & buttons for each block.  Click here for details on receiving monthly BLOCK & BUTTON kits:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14188

How does that song go?  ". . . the weather outside is frightful! . . . Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."  Oh, were it only snow and not ice!  I hope you are all warm and safe today, but I know some of you will be slipping and sliding between work, school & home, so please be careful!

Our "bad" weather started last Saturday morning.  We'd gathered at the store early for 2nd Saturday when the sleet started falling & many of you "slid" in about 9 a.m.!  Sunday I never left the house.  Luckily I had all the "fixings" for the new SUGAR & SPICE SWEET SIXTEEN small quilt.  So I picked that up and had the top finished in just 6 hours, including a lunch break.

When you order our SUGAR & SPICE SWEET BABY SHOOFLY kit, you'll receive Maywood's SWEET SIXTEENS, background, binding & backing fabric, plus we'll include the pattern for FREE!  Even if you can't get it done for this Christmas, it is rather "retro", and not about to go out of style! This CLASSIC CHRISTMAS look is very "in" again.  :)

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14165

Our selection of SWEET SIXTEEN rolls is growing.  A SWEET SIXTEEN rolled bundle comes from MAYWOOD FABRICS and includes one 9" x 11" (approx.) piece of each fabric in a line.  Click here to see what we have on hand today.  More are arriving all the time, so keep checking our CHARMS PACKETS, STRIP BUNDLES & SWEET SIXTEENS department:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=103

Also check out these 2 books from DESIGN ORIGINALS for patterns using SWEET SIXTEENS:

Also this past Sunday I made another fun TIDY TRAVEL PILLOW CASE.

I just love owls!  In this picture the pillow case is pulled back to reveal the taupe inner lining.  Normally, the taupe would not be showing.

It really is a cute combo & these bundles are sure to go fast!  We've been creating & cutting a variety of new travel pillow case bundles and trying to keep the web site up-to-date at the same time.  We'll let you know asap if you've ordered something that's sold out & try to have an alternative suggestion!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14152

So, if you still need a fun, fast gift try the Tidy Travel Pillow Case, and start with one of our bundles:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=32

Speaking of "go fast", that's what happened to the CELL PHONE BAG KITS after last week's newsletter.  We got another shipment yesterday and are mailing out the remaining orders now.  And now we have stock again, so if you want a FAST GIFT to make, see an illustrated lesson in my TIPS department -

http://www.sewnatural.net/Tip-Cell_Phone_Quilt_Smart_Bag.htm

The printed interfacing, which is used as an underlining for the bag, is available in panels of 3 bags (cut off a bolt), or in a package which includes printed instructions, cording & velcro.

Package:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=12392

By the panel:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=12393

We've also got BLACK RAYON BOLO CORDING which makes a great strap.  I'd recommend a minimum of 1-1/2 yards, more if the wearer is taller than 5'6".  At .49/yard, you can't go wrong!

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14194

In the BETTY BOOP MUSIC bundle, we include the button & 3 fat quarters - a black fabric for the strap.  But you could add the Bolo Cord.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=13072

The CELL PHONE BAGS from QUILTSMART are just the right size for passports too!

These bags are an excellent use for FAT QUARTERS.  Check out our entire selection of fat quarters here:

I just love this RJR fabric group - Cats Meow!  The weather has really gotten on my cats' nerves too!  These drawings remind me of them.  They are soooo funny!

Need a larger bag?  Try the SMART BAG from QUILTSMART.  Again, start with the printed interfacing which acts as an underlining to the bag.

November 29, 2007

Hi all!

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving weekend!  Lily came home and we had a fun dinner gathering with friends on Thursday and then saw lots of you on Friday and Saturday in the store.  That was fun too!  Drawings were held Monday and Celia Lutts won the big gift basket and Brenda Pfortmiller won our weekender bag filled with goodies.  Karen Reed won the $25 gift certificate in the web store drawing.  Congratulations to all!

Are you enjoying your "bonus" week?  :)  Yes, I feel like this week is extra time - after Thanksgiving and before December and all that that entails!  I'm finishing a couple of projects which I'm excited about!

I used Maple Island's BQ (Big Quilt) pattern to create a "Kansas Spirit - Urban Mystery" quilt.  The 12" blocks, rather than a single fabric as called for in the pattern, are the 12 sampler blocks from the Kansas City Star book, KANSAS SPIRIT, 15 Historical Blocks & The Saga of the Sunflower State by Jeanne Poore.

We'd be happy to send you a complete set of "Urban Mystery" block kits.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14033

The textured black DIMPLES fabric used as the setting background is still available, but the multi-colored print is not.  DIMPLES is a great "basic" fabric.  See our selection here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=dimples

We'd be happy to substitute another "fun" print if you'd like a complete URBAN MYSTERY kit.  You can give us suggestions or just be surprised!  Or just order the 12 block kits and see what "inspires" you.  The patterns are found in the book, KANSAS SPIRIT.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=9993

In the blocks I used a variety of "contemporary" or "urban-retro" fabrics from Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Denyse Schmidt, Kaffe Fasset, Jacob Philips, Carla Miller, and others!  I did not use these VW campers, but aren't they fun!

Free Spirit - Heather Ross - Lightning Bugs - VW Bus - Pink

You can see all of these fabrics and many more in the following departments:

Free Spirit Fabrics

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=52

Westminster Fabrics

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=107

One thing that this email is missing is SCENT.  That's right, I wish you could smell my quilt too!  I have washed it, or rather "soaked" it in SOLA, Evening Garden a limited edition SOAK from Amy Butler.  I really like it.  It is subtle, but definitely there.  We have SOAK, the new way to wash your fine fabrics, quilts & knits included, in several scents, including Aquae - Purely Elemental, which seems "unscented" to me.  Check them out here:

http://www.sewnatural.net/nl.asp?s=soak

Last Saturday night Lily, Randy & I went to Kansas City to enjoy the Country Club Plaza lights (along with 1000s of other people).  We watched the Kansas/Missouri football game in our hotel room (we're Jayhawk fans and are sad) and on Sunday went to the KC Chiefs football game (more sadness).  Then Randy & I delivered Lily back to Cottey in Nevada, MO and headed back to Kansas, only narrowly missing one crazed male deer!

If you are interested in Kansas & Missouri history, as well as quilts, check out another new book from Kansas City Star Books, BORDERLAND IN BUTTERNUT & BLUE - A Sampler Quilt to Recall the Civil War Along the Kansas/Missouri Border by Barbara Brackman.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=14036

This book, based on The Kansas City Star's 2007 block-of-the-month project, offers a beautiful sampler quilt, as well as other quilts and projects. The patterns relate to stories of women affected by the clashes along the Missouri/Kansas border during this tumultuous time in our nation's history. The quilt, made in shades of butternut and blue, is reminiscent of the uniforms worn by Civil War soldiers.

If you are interested in the Civil War, check out 2 more books, full of quilt block patterns and actual excerpts from diaries written during the Civil War.

For fabrics, look in our 1800s Reproductions department:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=77

In the department with Andover Fabrics - look for Jo Morton's designs:

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=94

I'm also finishing up the 1930s reproduction version, FEEDSACK KANSAS SPIRIT sampler quilt.  These are the same blocks as the Urban Mystery quilt, only set with the classic, cheerful green and yellow solids that were so popular in the 1930s quilts.  We photographed it on our black flannel board so you could see the scalloped border.  I'm really pleased with the way this came out.  I put a fun orange floral print from Free Spirit's Katie Jump Rope collection on the back.  If your interested in our kit, click here:

November 16, 2007

Hi all!

Hope you enjoyed the first HALF of November! :)  Hard to believe, especially around here where 70-dgree temperatures continue to tease us  and the maple trees in my front yard still have bright orange leaves on them.

Alexander Henry - Land of Plenty - Thanksgiving Collage But, Thanksgiving is less than a week away, so let's get busy! :)  (Did Pilgrims really dance? oh well, check out this cute Alexander Henry fabric in the Alexander Henry department.)

It occurs to me that I haven't managed to get an email out since returning from Quilt Market in Houston.  Lily & I had a great time!  Surprise!  We found lots of good product and lots of ideas for new projects too!

We started the weekend with an all-day event known as "schoolhouse", which consists of a different presentation or class every 15 or 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Lily & I mainly went to different presentations, and gathered lots of useful information and met lots of authors and designers.  Lily was thrilled to meet and visit with AMY BUTLER.  Check out our "Amy Butler" department here:

Quilting Treasures - Wizard Oz - Munchkin Land Border StripeAlways a favorite movie with our family, we were very excited to see the WIZARD OF OZ fabric.  It is so nice!  In anticipation of it's delivery in December and the interest we've had in it so far, Trenna has put it all into the web store and you can place your orders now.  We'll fill them in a "first come, first served" order as soon as the fabric arrives!  "Under the Rainbow" is in sepia tones, like the black & white part of the the movie and "Over the Rainbow" is in full Technicolor, of course! Check it all out here:

Maywood Sudio - Full Sun - Sunflower - Yellow & Red Fat QuarterAt Quilt Market the fabric companies go "all out" in decorating their sales spaces, known as "booths".  One of our favorites was the display at MAYWOOD.  They had beautiful quilts made with FULL SUN.  So we were delighted to find it had been delivered to the store while we were gone!  The SUNFLOWERS are gorgeous in full color and in "tonal" renditions.  Check them out here:

This week we started adding more shelves to the store!  Yes, I'm literally "climbing the walls"! :)  We're still pretty stirred up, and will be for a while.  But you can take advantage of this with all the things I'm marking down!  Like today I've put on SALE the rest of the THIMBLEBERRIES CHRISTMAS STREET kits.  If you order the book with the kit they'll both be 25% off!  We have a limited number, so don't delay!

Alexander Henry - Candle Light - Hanukkah - Blue & White

Do you or someone in your family celebrate Hanukkah?  I just love this striking "Menorah" print.  It is a wonderful, contemporary graphic print, which would make a great addition to any table or quilt!
