Hi all!
Oooh, what a
"laboring" LABOR DAY we had here!
With the help of my husband
Randy and Kay's
daughter Danielle (who each carried lots of bolts), Mary & I completely
stirred up the store!

As we reopened early
Tuesday morning a customer remarked, "You're changing
seasons!" Yes, and it does look so good in here (if you ignore
the mismatched fat quarter stacks, orphan patterns &
"homeless" groups on the floor)! Of course,
the next customer cried, "But I KNEW where everything
was!" Oh, she only "thought" she knew.
:) It was funny how often Mary or I said, "Where did
this come from? This is BEAUTIFUL!" and "I'd forgotten
all about this fabric!"
So let me
"tempt" you this week with both NEW
fabrics, NEW MODELS, and
re-arranged and refreshed fabrics that may look completely new to you
too!

The CENTRAL KANSAS QUILT
SHOP HOP happens in one month, Oct. 5, 6 & 7.
My very own, UNIQUE,
Shop Hop QUILT is hanging in the store for previewing. I'm very
pleased with it! Jan Hutchison machine quilted it with beautiful
feathers. I like old-fashioned, flat cotton batting. I
have washed the quilt and it now has a wonderful texture. After
quilting & washing, the quilt is approx. 62 x 82 inches and I plan to drape it across the back
of the couch. However, it just fits the top of a queen-size bed, so it
would be a simple matter to add borders if you wished to use it on a
bed. (For more info on Jan Hutchison and her studio, see
the Oct. issue of Quilters' Newsletter. We all feel lucky that
she lives and works near-by!)
The KITS for the 12"
SAMPLER BLOCKS seen in my quilt are only available in
the 10 individual stores during the October 3-day Central Kansas Quilt SHOP HOP
. (Sorry, no mail orders for these, but maybe you'd like an
assortment of fat quarters to use with your own 12" block
patterns!)
You
can pre-order my
quilt "FINISHING" kit now. We'll have a limited
number of PRE-CUT kits available. My quilt is made with
hundreds of 3-1/2" squares. It is very easy to assemble,
but oh, the beauty of die-cut squares! :)

You may also pre-order
the SHOP HOP'S exclusive background fabric. This is the same
fabric used in each of the stores' blocks, plus I used it to frame the
center of the quilt. I also used it to back my
quilt and it is so nice and soft! Pre-orders may be picked up
beginning the first day of Shop Hop, and we'll start mailing
pre-orders shortly after that.

With
FALL in the air and our rich assortment of AUTUMN fabrics, I was
inspired to stitch a 2007 version of the PURE
DELIGHT table runner. I used two different LEAF print fabrics
for the intertwining squares. Difficult to see in this
photograph, but apparent yet strikingly blended in "real
life".

This PURE DELIGHT TABLE RUNNER pattern
has been one of our best sellers, and the new kit is moving quickly as
well!

Once I'd finished my
Shop Hop Quilt, I used the momentum to also finish a sweet, MINI-QUILT, which could be used on a table, as a
pillow top, or hung on the wall (which is what I'm doing with mine).
This little guy is only about 20 inches square. I pulled some of
the new WINTER fabrics from HOFFMAN, and featured their every popular
CARDINALS in the border. Order a fat quarter bundle and we'll
include the pattern
today! It "whips" up in no time! Ok, make
sure you get the 1" THANGLES too. It would be a lot slower
and harder to put together without these time-saving, accurate papers
for making HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES.

NEW CLASS:

September always brings the start of a new
SAMPLER QUILT CLASS here in the store.
Starting SEPTEMBER 20th
(the 3rd Thursday), Mary will be teaching STARS AROUND THE
GARDEN.
This will be a 9-month class for $45 which includes the pattern,
meeting at both 10 a.m. & 7 p.m.
http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=13168
You can use any variety
of fabrics to suit your style. We'll happily help you make your
selections. Start the class with as few as 5 fat quarters,
making it easy on the pocket book too! Come see us for more
details.
The new BETTY BOOP Bebop ipod holder
that I introduced last week was actually
the result of a "mistake". I've had a couple of people ask about
this kit, and so let me tell you "the rest of the story".
It happened when . . .
Lily was making this and wanted the red instruments on the outside and
the polka dots on the inside. She had already snipped the holes to
insert the magnetic snaps when she realized she was assembling it
wrong. "Never mind, I'll just start over", she
said.
So I took her "discard". I pulled
the seamed red & polka dot fabric unit away from the Quiltsmart
interfacing
and turned it around, matching the red to the flap end that would end
up on the outside. That's when we noticed that one end of the interfacing
was longer than the other from the line on which we'd decided to
center the seam (to accomodate the pocket?). After
folding & stitching, I turned it right side out, but pulled it
such
that the pocket ended up on the outside, on the back (turns out, especially handy for
stowing the ipod's cord).

When stitched & turned according to the
instructions that come in the package, the pocket is underneath the flap.
I managed to cover
up the snipped openings while stitching the buttonhole for the
button. I LOVE this new version, the result being that some of the
lining fabric shows on the outside of the bag. Try
it! You'll like it! :)
Fat quarter & button
bundles available for the BETTY BOOP
CELL PHONE BAG.

So many people seem
energized by the changing seasons! Hope you are one of these and
getting lots done and that we see you soon!
Randy & I are
heading to Kansas City again this weekend (I must get some more
hand-work together!). This time we're meeting Lily and her
friend Melissa (a Yankees fan) to catch the Royals/Yankees game on
Sunday afternoon. I hope the weather stays nice! Then
we're rushing back to Wichita on Sunday night to catch the Taj Mahal
concert - with tickets we forgot we had when we made the baseball
arrangements! Oh well! :)
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Charlotte Wolfe
