Oct. 25, 2007

Hi all!

This is the time of year that I feel like my life is on "fast-forward"!

We had a GREAT Central Kansas Quilt Shop Hop the first weekend in October.  We had a GREAT local quilt show last weekend.  And this weekend I'm off to QUILT MARKET!  Actually, as you read this, I am probably there.  Lily is going with me.  She drove home (again!) tonight (Thursday) and we will leave the house at 5:50 a.m. tomorrow morning, flying into Houston by 9 a.m.  Then 8 hours of SCHOOLHOUSE, which are a series of 15 to 30 minutes mini-classes, lectures & demos.  I tell you, by Friday night we'll be exhausted, but happy!  :)  Then Saturday & Sunday we'll preview lots of fabric lines, new patterns, books, etc. while keeping our eyes open for the latest, greatest gadgets!

It is fun to have Lily joining me again.  She gives a fresh, young perspective to everything.  As you know, our product mix ranges from traditional patterns and fabrics, including reproductions from every century, to very "mod" & bright contemporary fabrics and everything in between.  We also try to carry patterns & books that will appeal to all tastes!  Whew!

Soooo, I've been running around the store looking for things that can move to the SALE ROOM to make room for the new things I'll be bringing home and will be arriving in the next few weeks.

Trenna has been busy marking things down on the web and adding many new SALE BOOKS.  Many of these are one of a kind, so better look and order fast!  Many bolts & books have been moved to the SALE ROOM.  Come check it out!

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=1

Be sure to take a look at the WHAT'S NEW as we try to get new stuff with some regularity!  Honestly, things are moving so fast around here, that half the time she's here to work on the web, we're calling Trenna out of the office to help wait on customers.  Not a bad problem to have!  Please don't hesitate to ask if we have something that you don't see on the web site.

New groups in the store that aren't on the web, include Loralie Designs' SEW GIRLS, WILLIAMSBURG INN from Nancy Halvorsen for Benartex, OAK LEAVES REEL from Moda.  They did get the OAK LEAVES REEL quilt kits cut today.  They start with a "CONVENIENCE" panel, i.e., the apparent appliqué "reel" blocks are printed for your convenience and ready to go!  Yea!  Call for the price, details, etc.  316-284-2547

We're also getting ready to start a new BLOCK-A-MONTH using Nancy Halvorsen's new book BE ATTITUDES.  This is really cute and clever and oh so "right"! :)  Watch for details on this coming soon (as soon as I get back from Houston!!)

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=13661

Of course, you need to just keep checking our NEWEST ADDITIONS.

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=58

And in the UP & COMING EVENTS department, be sure to mark your calendars so you can come to our SUPER FAT QUARTER SALE - FRIDAY & SATURDAY of THANKSGIVING WEEKEND.

We're teaming up with COTTONWOOD QUILTS in Hutchinson for an extra special event!  Scroll to the end of this newsletter for complete details.

We're also planning 2008 classes and invite you to a special PREVIEW NIGHT, Thursday December 6th.

We'll have Lynette's own THIMBLEBERRIES CLUB quilt for 2008 in the "LODGE" COLORWAY.  We'll have all of the fabrics from the new LAKESIDE colorway as well, so you can see which one you want to do.  We'll have all the details for you, the prices, the meeting dates.  We'll meet just once a quarter, but those meetings will be fun and you won't want to miss out.

At the Dec. 6th PREVIEW NIGHT we'll also be introducing the 2nd Thursday & 2nd Saturday sampler programs, showing JAMESTOWN SAMPLER QUILTS, with a new class scheduled to start the 1st Thursday in January and run for 12 months.  We'll also be introducing a couple of new BLOCK-A-MONTH programs, including BE ATTITUTES.  Hope you can make it that night for other specials, but if you can't, please try to stop in soon after, as we hope to have the THIMBLEBERRIES QUILT CLUB QUILT for at least a week longer & the other displays will still be up as well.

Well, I should really be getting to bed now.  I think that alarm at 5a.m. is going to be wicked!

Have a great weekend!

Hope to see you soon!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
Charlotte Wolfe

Hi all!

This is the weekend of the Emma Creek Quilt Guild Quilt Show, GOING TO PIECES.

It runs today, Friday, through 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It is located at the Carriage Factory Art Gallery, 128 E. Sixth St., across from the Sherwin Williams which is about 1 block south from Charlotte's Sew Natural's back door!  If you have any trouble finding it please call us at 316-284-2547.

There are quilts displayed on 3 floors, connected by stairs or an elevator.  The picture above of the admissions table shows the opportunity quilt behind on the right.  The opportunity quilt is queen-size and was pieced and hand-quilted by members of the guild.

There is also an opportunity table (opportunity quilt in the background) with gift certificates, 4 seasonal table runners and many gift items from local Main St. merchants.  One lucky winner will get everything on the table.  The proceeds from the table will be donated to the Carriage Factory Art Gallery.

One of my quilts, STARRING 12, is draped over an antique cabinet in the TEA ROOM area.  The guild is selling chili, lemon bars & chocolate cake during the show, so you won't get weak!  I hope you can come and enjoy the QUILT SHOW and then stop in to see us for some shopping!

Hope to see you soon!

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

September 20, 2007

Hi all!

This is a "really fast" email newsletter.  I was supposed to have left the house an hour ago, heading for New England, but the plane isn't until 8 a.m. tomorrow, so I'm ok! :)

Also, just a reminder that Mary's new class
STARS AROUND THE GARDEN
a 2-block-a-month sampler quilt, starts tomorrow,
Thursday Sept. 20.  She'll hold class at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Come to either one.  $45 includes classes for 9 months and pattern.  You choose your own fabric.
Mary is doing CHRISTMAS (pictured here).  There are some kits available for this too.  Let us know if you're interested.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=13168

Speaking of "try it, you'll like it", have you tried sewing with any of the new precut fabric strips?  Whether you purchase the pre-cut or cut your own 2-1/2" strips, there are LOTS of patterns for
JELLY ROLLS.  See our newest department.  Watch for lots of additions, since we have a die-cutter and are cutting lots of accurate 2-1/2" strips here in the store too!

http://www.sewnatural.com/nl.asp?p=0&c=145

There are also a lot of new colors in the HAND-DYED Hoffman 1895 line. Beautiful colors!

Marcus Brothers - Ellery - Floral Bloom & Dot - Pink & Green

Also new, Ellery from Marcus Brothers.

Please, look at the WHAT'S NEW department.  There is soooo much new again.  As I left the store I had to struggle out the back door, past the 5 boxes of Moda's newest Kansas Troubles' AUTUMN JOURNEY.  I'm sure we'll have it on line soon, but stop in the store and help unpack it! LOL

Charlotte’s 2007 Shop Hop Quilt Finishing Kit

Also ALL of the Central Kansas SHOP HOP QUILTS are posted to the Shop Hop web site.  Our SHOP HOP is the first full weekend in October.   These quilts are all beautiful in person.  The photographs, while helpful, don't do them justice.  The fabric is beautiful, the colors are rich and the quilting on all of them is worth checking out!  Please come see us!

Well, that was fast and I'm not sure how accurate.  I'll be back in the store next Wednesday and will try to answer any questions or problems I've created then.  :)

Have a great week!

Hope to see you soon!

Hi all!

Oooh, what a "laboring" LABOR DAY we had here!

With the help of my husband Randy and Kay's daughter Danielle (who each carried lots of bolts), Mary & I completely stirred up the store!

As we reopened early Tuesday morning a customer remarked, "You're changing seasons!" Yes, and it does look so good in here (if you ignore the mismatched fat quarter stacks, orphan patterns & "homeless" groups on the floor)!  Of course, the next customer cried, "But I KNEW where everything was!"  Oh, she only "thought" she knew.  :)  It was funny how often Mary or I said, "Where did this come from?  This is BEAUTIFUL!" and "I'd forgotten all about this fabric!"

So let me "tempt" you this week with both NEW fabrics, NEW MODELS, and re-arranged and refreshed fabrics that may look completely new to you too!

The CENTRAL KANSAS QUILT SHOP HOP happens in one month, Oct. 5, 6 & 7.

My very own, UNIQUE, Shop Hop QUILT is hanging in the store for previewing.  I'm very pleased with it!  Jan Hutchison machine quilted it with beautiful feathers.  I like old-fashioned, flat cotton batting.  I have washed the quilt and it now has a wonderful texture.  After quilting & washing, the quilt is approx. 62 x 82 inches and I plan to drape it across the back of the couch. However, it just fits the top of a queen-size bed, so it would be a simple matter to add borders if you wished to use it on a bed.   (For more info on Jan Hutchison and her studio, see the Oct. issue of Quilters' Newsletter.  We all feel lucky that she lives and works near-by!)

The KITS for the 12" SAMPLER BLOCKS seen in my quilt are only available in the 10 individual stores during the October 3-day Central Kansas Quilt SHOP HOP .  (Sorry, no mail orders for these, but maybe you'd like an assortment of fat quarters to use with your own 12" block patterns!)

You can pre-order my quilt "FINISHING" kit now.  We'll have a limited number of PRE-CUT kits available.  My quilt is made with hundreds of 3-1/2" squares.  It is very easy to assemble, but oh, the beauty of die-cut squares! :)

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=13166

You may also pre-order the SHOP HOP'S exclusive background fabric.  This is the same fabric used in each of the stores' blocks, plus I used it to frame the center of the quilt.  I also used it to back my quilt and it is so nice and soft!  Pre-orders may be picked up beginning the first day of Shop Hop, and we'll start mailing pre-orders shortly after that.

Hours for "KANSAS DREAMS", the 2007, Ninth Annual,
CENTRAL KANSAS QUILT SHOP HOP are:

Friday & Saturday OCTOBER 5 & 6, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday OCTOBER 7, 11 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Come and visit 10 shops to be eligible to win a DREAM SEWING CENTER, including large Horn work table with space for a sewing machine, a storage chest, a contoured sewing chair, and a White SEWING MACHINE.

In addition to this "DREAM" GRAND PRIZE, there will be many other prizes awarded, including fabric, new sewing notions, books, gifts and more!  We really tried to give you a reason to participate!  But even if you don't win, the SHOP HOP is always a lot of fun and very rewarding.

With FALL in the air and our rich assortment of AUTUMN fabrics, I was inspired to stitch a 2007 version of the PURE DELIGHT table runner.  I used two different LEAF print fabrics for the intertwining squares.  Difficult to see in this photograph, but apparent yet strikingly blended in "real life".

Stitchin Friends - Pure Delight Runer Pattern  This PURE DELIGHT TABLE RUNNER pattern has been one of our best sellers, and the new kit is moving quickly as well!

Once I'd finished my Shop Hop Quilt, I used the momentum to also finish a sweet, MINI-QUILT, which could be used on a table, as a pillow top, or hung on the wall (which is what I'm doing with mine).  This little guy is only about 20 inches square.  I pulled some of the new WINTER fabrics from HOFFMAN, and featured their every popular CARDINALS in the border.  Order a fat quarter bundle and we'll include the pattern today!  It "whips" up in no time!   Ok, make sure you get the 1" THANGLES too.  It would be a lot slower and harder to put together without these time-saving, accurate papers for making HALF-SQUARE TRIANGLES.

NEW CLASS:

September always brings the start of a new
SAMPLER QUILT CLASS here in the store.

Starting SEPTEMBER 20th (the 3rd Thursday), Mary will be teaching STARS AROUND THE GARDEN.
This will be a 9-month class for $45 which includes the pattern, meeting at both 10 a.m. & 7 p.m.

http://www.sewnatural.net/nli.asp?iid=13168

You can use any variety of fabrics to suit your style.  We'll happily help you make your selections.  Start the class with as few as 5 fat quarters, making it easy on the pocket book too!  Come see us for more details.

The new BETTY BOOP Bebop ipod holder that I introduced last week was actually the result of a "mistake".   I've had a couple of people ask about this kit, and so let me tell you "the rest of the story".  It happened when . . . Lily was making this and wanted the red instruments on the outside and the polka dots on the inside.  She had already snipped the holes to insert the magnetic snaps when she realized she was assembling it wrong.  "Never mind, I'll just start over", she said.

Quiltsmart - Cell Phone Printed Interfacing Panel

So I took her "discard".   I pulled the seamed red & polka dot fabric unit away from the Quiltsmart interfacing and turned it around, matching the red to the flap end that would end up on the outside.  That's when we noticed that one end of the interfacing was longer than the other from the line on which we'd decided to center the seam (to accomodate the pocket?).   After folding & stitching, I turned it right side out, but pulled it such that the pocket ended up on the outside, on the back (turns out, especially handy for stowing the ipod's cord).

Quiltsmart - Cell Phone Bag - 3 in Packet

When stitched & turned according to the instructions that come in the package, the pocket is underneath the flap.  I managed to cover up the snipped openings while stitching the buttonhole for the button.  I LOVE this new version, the result being that some of the lining fabric shows on the outside of the bag.   Try it!  You'll like it!  :)

Fat quarter & button bundles available for the BETTY BOOP CELL PHONE BAG.

We just added some cute new patterns for CHARM SQUARES from Miss Rosie's, called SCHNIBBLES!
Check these out too under WHAT'S NEW or under CHARMS!

Have you just joined my email newsletter list?  FYI, there's lots of information and product highlights in past newsletters available in my "archives".  Start by clicking on the July-August 2007 link and there are links at the bottom of each page taking you back, back, back . . .  are you sleepy yet?  :)

http://www.sewnatural.net/archive_newslettersJulyAug07.htm

So many people seem energized by the changing seasons! Hope you are one of these and getting lots done and that we see you soon!

Randy & I are heading to Kansas City again this weekend (I must get some more hand-work together!).  This time we're meeting Lily and her friend Melissa (a Yankees fan) to catch the Royals/Yankees game on Sunday afternoon.  I hope the weather stays nice!  Then we're rushing back to Wichita on Sunday night to catch the Taj Mahal concert - with tickets we forgot we had when we made the baseball arrangements!  Oh well!  :)

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
Charlotte Wolfe
