Lori Smith's SAMPLER MAGIC quilt in AUTUMN GLOW colors.

This was our inspiration - From
My Heart To Your Hands Sampler Magic pattern.
We offered a different 8" block kit each month beginning in
January 2006.
Additional fat quarters allowed enough fabric to make the 12" and
4" blocks.
Quilt finishes approx. 64" x 80".
If you would like to order an
assortment of fabrics including fat quarters, eighth yards and yardage
for the border and binding, or just the pattern, click here:

This is Charlotte's version
with the 8" blocks only.

Order Charlotte's bundle of 10 fat quarters and
we'll include the instructions. There is enough fabric to piece
and cut binding too. Quilt finishes 40" x 44".

We saved KANSAS TROUBLES for
last!
Our fabrics are on the left, Lori's fabrics in the original quilt, are
on the right.

|
|
When assembling the KANSAS
TROUBLES block, one must pay special attention to the direction of the
half-square triangles.
Charlotte highly recommends using 1"
THANGLES to make these half-square triangles. Click
here for more information.

Troubles block.

This is a close-up of Lori's quilt.
Notice the narrow rose "flange" set between the binding and
the quilt as an accent.
Also notice the narrow green "inner"
border. This is not in the pattern, but Lori added it to make
the pieced border fit the pieced blocks.
Tip - Sew the 1st inner border to the outer
border before adding it to the pieced quilt center. This way
you'll know where the adjustments need to be made.
|
|
Simplify the piecing of the
inner border by following this tip - cut one square for every 2 gold
triangles, then piece on the diagonal, rather than setting together
square blocks.
Cut gold SQUARES that are
1-15/16" (ok, a scant 2").
Or use Perfect Patchwork Template #28 found in Set D.
Use the #14 found in Perfect Patchwork Template Set B to cut the
medium and dark green triangles.
Piece these to the sides of the gold squares.
Use the B-10 Template or cut 3-3/8" squares of beige.
Sew gold/green sets to either side, and sew together.
Follow pattern to make final sections, creating straight ends, paying
attention to color placements.

This is LaVerna's "Pretty
In Pink" SAMPLER MAGIC quilt with all the 4", 8",
12" and both pieced borders! Notice she used a "coping
strip" inner border too.
This inner border is not only practical, but makes a nice frame to
visually "hold in" the pieced blocks.

Here is a detail shot.

This is the start of Judy's
"RHAPSODY IN BLUE" quilt using just the 8" pieced
blocks.

Judy's
inspiration is a quilt found in BETTER BY THE DOZEN, shown here at
right.
Above is a close-up so you can see the pretty butterfly fabric she is
using as well as the other fabrics.
